What's All This About the Mediterranean Diet?

A Brief Breakdown of the Hype


Hey Y'all,

I'm sure you've heard about the Mediterranean diet by now. It's making it's rounds on social media, the news, and in many health articles, but if you aren't familiar with it here's a quick rundown.

Basically, the Mediterranean diet emphasizes whole, minimally processed foods like colorful vegetables, fruits, legumes, whole grains, fish, nuts, seeds, olive oil, etc. etc. It's less about restriction and more about enjoying food that fuels your body and supports long-term health.

But let's be real, the word diet feels restrictive and temporary, or even a little judgy. Like, 'oh great they're talking about another fad diet'. That’s why I'm tossing the word diet out altogether. 

Moving forward we're calling it the Mediterranean lifestyle ...a nourishing and satisfying way of eating that has proven itself across cultures bordering the Mediterranean Sea.

  • 💗Heart Health Support: Rich in fiber, healthy fats, and low in sodium and saturated fat, the Mediterranean lifestyle has been shown to lower LDL (“bad”) cholesterol and reduce blood pressure — major risk factors for heart disease and stroke (Johns Hopkins Medicine).

  • 🍬Better Blood Sugar Balance: High in fiber and low in added sugar, this eating style helps stabilize blood glucose levels, which is helpful for managing prediabetes or type 2 diabetes (Harvard T.H. Chan School of Public Health).

  • 🧠Brain Boost: Research links Mediterranean eating to better memory, focus, and cognitive function as we age (National Institutes of Health).

  • ⚖️Sustainable Weight Management: With satisfying meals full of fiber and healthy fats, people tend to feel fuller longer — reducing overeating and making it easier to maintain a healthy weight.

  • 🎗️Reduced Cancer Risk: The antioxidant-rich, high-fiber ingredients common to this lifestyle are associated with a lowered risk of certain cancers (Cleveland Clinic).

This doesn't have to be complicated. Start by adding one or two Mediterranean-inspired meals to your week. Below is a simple menu.

Breakfast Ideas🍴

  • Greek yogurt with strawberries and chia seeds (if you've got them)

  • Oatmeal topped with blueberries and walnuts

  • Veggie-packed omelet with tomatoes and mushrooms

Lunch Ideas🥙

  • Whole grain sandwich with hummus and fresh veggies

  • Quinoa salad with chickpeas, cucumbers, and feta cheese

  • Lentil salad with olives, tomatoes, and olive oil

Dinner Ideas🐟

  • Baked salmon with brown rice and roasted veggies

  • Mediterranean-style lasagna with eggplant and spinach

  • Grilled chicken with sweet potato fries and a side salad


This (diet) Lifestyle is Doable

So...what do ya think? It doesn't seem that hard right? And the meals appear flavorful and delicious.

The Mediterranean lifestyle is less about following rigid rules and more about embracing mindful eating of whole foods that will love your body back. Let's try it together!
