Surround yourself with the right people Surrounding yourself with individuals who genuinely support and encourage your goals can make a huge difference in your journey towards achievement. A strong support network serves as a source of motivation during challenging times, offering both emotional and practical assistance. Whether it's friends, family, or like-minded individuals sharing similar aspirations, having a community that understands your vision provides a sense of accountability and camaraderie. These allies not only celebrate your victories but can also offer guidance and empathy when faced with setbacks. 2. Part 2: CPI De-Escalation Tips

Hey Y'all, I've been focusing a lot on aggressive and violent behavior, as well as exploring strategies to navigate mental health crises, should you find yourself locked in one. These types of situations can emerge quite unexpectedly, and there aren't official protocols or a magic formula for preventing these high-stress events from happening. There are, however, constructive, positive and humane ways to respond and handle these behaviors. These de-escalation tips from CPI are about support not suppression and about seeing each other with the compassion that each of us want to be seen with. 10 Ways to De-escalate High Stress Situations - Be Empathic and Nonjudgemental- Don't judge or be dismissive of the feelings of the person or people in distress. Remember that their feelings are real, whether or not you think they're justified or not. Respect those feelings, keeping in mind that whatever the person is going through could be the most important event in their life ...

Conquering Those Late-Night Munchies

Am I Hungry...  or Just Bored? 🍕🍪 Back in October, I finally quit my day shift job after nine years of devout working. Good Riddance !  👋🏼  The new gig offered more flexible hours, but it absolutely  wrecked my eating schedule. Previously, when bedtime was around 11 PM, I'd have my last snack by 9:30 PM. Now? Dinners are later... and a new dilemma arose: Late-night snack attacks! 🍰🍟🍕🍪 The Slippery Slope A bedtime snack isn’t necessarily bad, in fact, nearly 60% of Americans admit to eating after 9 PM without much guilt. (Hey, we’re human!) The problem comes when late-night eating becomes habitual and unhealthy. 👉🏼 Studies show we're more likely to reach for processed, high-fat, high-sugar foods late at night. 👉🏼 Plus, eating too close to bedtime doesn’t give our bodies enough time to properly digest food, leading to heartburn, blood sugar spikes, and even chronic diseases over time. Dr. Joseph Murray, a Mayo Clinic gastroenterologist, explains it sim...

Part1: CPI's Crisis Prevention Glossary of Terms

Aggressive & Violent Behaviors Happen Every Day In our Homes, Workplaces, Schools... Understanding conflict resolution and competency strategies is a must-have communication skill in influencing the success or failure of de-escalating aggressive or violent behaviors that could lead to crisis. A feeling of nervousness or unease.  *Body Language - the postures, gestures, facial expressions, and movements used to communicate. *Communication through Touch - a form of physical contact that expresses feelings or emotions. *COPING Model - A debriefing tool that may be used with staff and individuals in care after a crisis event. *De-escalation - preventive interventions that help lessen potential conflict. *Defensive- protecting oneself from a real or perceived challenge.  *Directive- providing clear direction or instruction. January is National Mental Health Month

Calm Your Mind in Stressful Times Happy New Year's, y'all!  And here we go into 2024... I'm sure by now you've noticed how life throws chaos at us on a regular basis-whether it's our finances, our relationships, or work, or our health.  In response to that chaos, we just keep on pushing through, surviving mostly on adrenaline and red bull. However, we might overschedule ourselves; we drink another coffee; we respond to one more email. We like to think that if we stay locked in all the time, we'll eventually be able to get things done. Cultivating a more restful, relaxed state of mind doesn't mean we'll drown under all our responsibilities. Instead, research suggests it will bring us greater attention, energy, and creativity to tackle them.  Yay!  And science also points to simple ways we can tap into that calm state of mind to be more resilient in our chaotic lives. A Stressed Mind VS. A Calm Mind Stress was never meant to be a 24/7 experience, y'a...

Cardio: The Habit to Incorporate

Let's Start a Cardio Habit And Stick to It! Hey Everyone, Last March , I confided in my brother about my lack of motivation to exercise and how as a result, my physical and mental health was declining. Despite joining a small, local gym, I was struggling to regularly attend. One of my excuses: Minnesota winters are grueling and miserably cold, and long as heck! #IYKYK (if you know, you know) In reality I was struggling with a maelstrom of unfortunate circumstances that had me seriously distressed; I'd lost site of myself. Because, less than 2 years ago I was in the best shape of my life. How did I let myself get to this point?! And more importantly, how do I find my way back? My brother offered a simple solution. " Take it one step at a time, E " .  Ironically, my brother suggested exactly what I've coached my clients to do-- set a manageable goal and take small attainable steps to accomplish that said goal.  Later, reassess, readjust the goal (if needed), then ...
