I still can't believe I'm finally turning this dream into my reality, but here it is!
Within the BlogPot, I intend to casually yet informatively highlight note-worthy issues pertaining to exercise, mental/social/emotional health, and aging.
Simple, right? Well, not so fast.
The health and wellness industry, while aimed at promoting well-being, can sometimes perpetuate toxicity and exclusivity especially to folks that are:
- living in bigger bodies
- older or elderly
- under-resourced/privileged
- marginalized
- disabled, and "othered"
Not only are these people practically invisible, but are also less likely to be represented in an industry that nets a smooth 2.3 billion annually!
....promoting rigid definitions of health, thriving on misinformation/pseudoscience and whack opinions, pushing unattainable and superficial body standards, and indulging in unabashed cultural appropriation.
This, in addition to very tangible challenges and barriers to health many (may) already face.
A barrier to healthy living could look like:
- lack of recreational options
- high costs that limit access to resources like gym memberships, nutritious food, etc.
- transportation challenges
- ageism-- catering to mostly younger demographics
- language barriers
- stigmas about race, cultures, and disabilities
- discrimination
- gender stereotypes in heteronormative environments
- shortage or no adaptive equipment and inclusive activities for those with disabilities.
- etc., etc., etc.
Keep in mind that Health & Wellness isn't a one-size-fits-all concept.
So I distinguish myself from other "health and wellness" bloggers because I know what it's like to be invisible and "othered" in this field and industry; my body may be hella strong, but it's never been petite, and over the years I've faced the toxicity and many of the above-listed barriers to health.
It didn't stop me, but I had to work 2-5x harder.
I came up with The Melting Pot (TMP) Coaching as a way to educate everyone, and to promote and practice health inclusivity. I'm speaking directly to those folks that have been (whether deliberately or unintentionally) excluded from wellness talks, initiatives, and health communities.
This is OUR communal Pot!
And within this BlogPot, I'll muse a wide range of topics, needs, and situations, including varying perspectives with nuanced meanings, concepts, and expressions.
But beauty and strength emerge when all kinds of people unite under their common goals.
We All Make Up The Melting Pot
And It Is All of Us.
